Without fuel such as gasoline and diesel, most vehicles would not run. Unfortunately, gasoline and diesel are extremely flammable. When fuels get spilled onto clothing, you cannot simple wash them in a washing machine to remove the diesel. You must first soak up as much of the fuel as possible; then, remove all traces of the fuel and its odor. If the proper steps are not followed, the diesel-soaked clothing could cause a fire.
Step 1
Fold several paper towels in half. Lay them on a flat surface.

Place the stained garment on top of the paper towels, with the diesel stain facing downward.
Step 3
Saturate a cloth with a dry-cleaning solvent.
Step 4
Blot the back of the diesel stain with the cloth.
Step 5
Replace the paper towels with fresh ones when they become dirty.
Step 6
Pour 2 cups of cool water in a container. Add ¼ cup of a mild dishwashing liquid designed to remove grease.
Step 7
Whisk the contents together until suds form.
Step 8
Saturate a sponge in the solution. Blot the diesel stain with the sponge for several passes.
Step 9
Launder the garment in a washing machine on the lowest setting. Launder only with other garments that have diesel on them.
Step 10
Allow the garments to air-dry. Do not place the garments in a dryer until all fuel odors are removed. Doing so is a fire hazard.
