Roaches, ants and other insects commonly infest homes.

Insects in your home are not just a nuisance, they can be very unsanitary. Roaches, ants and other creepy crawlers can infest kitchens, ruining food and leaving droppings everywhere. While commercially available glue traps work well, you can make an inexpensive glue trap at home with just a few items. The biggest expense is a container of insect trap coating, such as Tanglefoot or Tangle-Trap. This is a sticky adhesive that lines the inside of the trap. One container goes a long way and is well worth the investment. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a rectangle of corrugated cardboard, 11 inches by 6 inches, so that the corrugation runs along the 6-inch width.

    • 2

Measure 1 inch from the end of the 11-inch length, and draw a line across the 6-inch width. Measure 3 inches from that line and draw another line across the 6-inch width. Repeat these measurements on the other end of the 11-inch length.

    • 3

Fold the cardboard along the corrugation at the 1-inch lines to form a crease in each line. Crease the other lines along the corrugation in the opposite direction.

    • 4

Fold the cardboard into a triangle and match the 1-inch sections on the ends of the cardboard. Staple the 1-inch sections together to form a handle.

    • 5

Use the plastic knife to spread the adhesive on the cardboard inside the trap. Be careful not to get any of the adhesive on the outside.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set your trap in an area where insects travel. Replace your traps regularly to ensure they are fresh and working properly. To dispose of your trap, simply pick it up by the handle and throw the whole thing away.
