Ear health is important for your pet. Ear mites, ear infections and allergies become problematic for pets. Keeping the ears clean on a regular basis can prevent these issues before they begin. Cleaning a pet's ears is easy to accomplish. Consult a veterinarian about any questions before you begin.

Things You'll Need

  • Cup with a lid
  • Distilled water
  • Salt
  • Towel

Instructions

      Mix one part salt and 10 parts distilled water in the cup.

      Snap on the lid and shake the solution well.

      Hold your pet by the collar. Remove the lid of the cup. Hold the pet's head at an angle, so the ear is facing down. Pour some of the solution from the cup into the ear that is facing down, then dab it with the towel. Move the pet's head so the other ear is at a downward angle, and do the same for that ear. Don't pour the solution in the ear if the cup of the ear is facing upward. This will only cause the solution to pour into the ear canal.

  • If you feel that your pet has many ear infections or problems, seek your veterinarian's advice about a prescription ear drop or wash.
