How to Replace a Fuel Filter on a 1990 Lincoln Town Car
The fuel system on a car contains at least three main components: a fuel pump, a fuel injector and a fuel filter. Changing the fuel filter is a simple procedure that usually takes about 30 minutes to complete. The fuel filter helps clean the fuel before sending it to the fuel injector. Over time, your fuel filter can become clogged, potentially causing major damage to your engine. To prevent this, you should change your fuel filter about every 25,000 miles.

1
Park your Lincoln Town Car in a safe area on level ground. Apply tire stops to the wheels of your vehicle to prevent your car from rolling while you are replacing your fuel filter. Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the power distribution center beside your battery. Disconnect the fuel pump relay from the power distribution center. Locate the gas tank on the passenger side of the car and unscrew the fuel tank cap. Leave the fuel tank cap unscrewed.

Crawl under the passenger side of your Lincoln Town Car. Find your fuel filter. The fuel filter is located below the passenger seating area just in front of the rear wheel well. For identification, the fuel filter is a three-inch metal cylinder attached to your fuel line.
