How to Remove Mastik From Tile
Mastic is an organic compound that is used to bond tile to walls and some floors. When dry, mastic can hold a tile in place for years with no loosening or cracking. Since mastic is an organic substance, it can begin to break down when exposed to moisture. Waiting for the mastic to soften enough to scrape off with water may take a substantial amount of time. Using a semi-paste adhesive remover will soften it much faster. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

1
Dip a paintbrush into the semi-paste adhesive remover and spread it onto the mastic you want removed. Semi-paste adhesive removers are spreadable but don't drip, so they can be applied to the mastic without fear of the remover running off.

2
Let the adhesive remover begin to soften the mastic. Times will vary depending on the remover, the age of the mastic and its thickness. Test the mastic with a putty knife every ten minutes to see if it is soft enough to scrape up.

3
Scrape the softened mastic off the tile with a putty knife. Take care to work gently on glazed surfaces to avoid scratches. Wipe the tile clean with a damp sponge to remove the last of the mastic and the adhesive remover.
