How to Harness The Power of Your Imagination

How to Harness The Power of Your Imagination thumbnail
Allow your imagination to soar.

Albert Einstein said "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Where does this statement leave other scholars and scientists, who pride themselves on their knowledge? Well, for starters, it leaves them question-able. Knowledge has its place of course, but imagination can be a key to the solutions we seek.

Imagination is the essence of creativity. Knowledge is scientific and/or academic data. Imagination embraces the majesty of life -the unseen source- of everything. Knowledge comes from "I-believe-it-when-I-see-it-thinking", looking at everything as a pie of sorts...certain ingredients and an ever limited supply of slices. Little do we know, that here too imagination is at work..."default imagination", that is.

So, how do we harness the power of imagination to improve our lives? We start by thinking for ourselves and by remembering to "imagine" for ourselves.

Instructions

    • 1

Remind yourself each day, to allow periods to access "out time." You can do so on your way to work (driving, walking, riding the elevator). Once you start this process, your awareness of such opportunities will grow ("out-time" is my term for stopping thought).

    • 2

You can access "out-time" by "tuning in" to the very moment, taking yourself literally "out of time". The quality of your "out-time" will fluctuate, while gradually improving. You will know how it feels, soon after you start (if only for very brief moments at first).

    • 3

In the stillness of "out-time" (a fully alert, yet meditative state), become aware of and then observe your current reality. Notice how it feels and how it too is imaginative in nature. This form of imagination, however, is "evidence based." Your surroundings and daily interactions mirror your "current reality," thus reinforcing it as your "imagined truth".

    • 4

While aware of this (and when appropriate), imagine your "desired reality." Affirm your choice(s), e.g. "I imagine myself working as a full time Scuba Diving instructor in Australia" (this can be anything, of course). Apply a "Golden Rule" by imagining your choice(s) beneficial to all who are affected by them. This will expedite the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid viewing desires as objectives. At a deeper level, you already are your desires fulfilled (Deepak Chopra terms this level "the field of pure potentiality"). If you imagine desires as goals, you imagine the lack/absence of them (subsequently materializing as such, or...delaying the process, at best).

  • The circumstance that your choices of "new reality" are not immediately apparent does not make them "unreal" (or unrealistic).

  • Remain flexible as to outcome. Focus on your regular routines and see in them opportunities to be one with the moment. Don't expect a thing (in other words "don't sweat it"). Be steadfast and anticipate! Religion would say, "have faith".

  • Note that "imagination initiates creation". When you do it consciously, you're virtually "superimposing" your preferred image/reality of yourself upon yourself.

  • Persevere and you will arise. It is a natural law, that's as certain as the law of gravity.

  • Do not jeopardize your safety, or the safety of others, by "imagining" inappropriately. A wise application of "knowledge" has its place. So, always use common sense.

  • "Out-time" -not a "trance-state"- is alert awareness. Utilize the time you spend driving a car (or operating equipment), as perfect opportunities to practice your focus on the moment (you want to "be one" with the activity you're engaged in).

  • Apply your "imagination" practice (day dreaming, essentially) only, when you're -not- involved in an activity that requires your full attention.
