How to Clean the Scanner on HP Laser Printers
The scanner glass on an HP Scanjet printer can become dirty or marked from ink or other debris. Over time, this can build up and begin to affect the quality of your scanned files and documents. Clean the glass on the scanner bed periodically to ensure that the printer functions at its best when you need to scan important documents. Preventative care and maintenance are important to extending the life of your printer.

Turn off the power to your HP laser printer and unplug the power cord. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the printer body.

Lift the scanner bed cover to expose the glass. Spray a small amount of ammonia-free window cleaner on a lint-free cloth. Wipe the glass with the cloth, avoiding the white strips down the sides of the scanner bed.

Dry the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth. Wipe the white strips on each side of the scanner bed with a clean, dry cloth if they show signs of dirt or debris.

Reconnect the USB cable to the back of the printer. Plug in the power cord and turn the printer power on.
