Only use the compressed air duster to clean the motherboard.

The Sega Genesis System was introduced to video game enthusiasts in 1988 and became an iconic machine of the 16-bit era. Those fortunate enough to still own this piece of video game history may find their systems need a little more than a quick dust-off after a prolonged period of storage. Cleaning your Genesis system is simple and should take about 15 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the system upside down and remove the six screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Turn the system right side up and remove the top portion of the system's case. Wipe the top portion of the case thoroughly with the cotton rag.

    • 2

Unscrew the nine screws holding the top heat shield to the system and remove the heat shield. Gently wipe the heat shield with the cotton rag.

Remove the two screws around the game cartridge socket and remove the motherboard. Use the compressed air duster to clean the motherboard and game cartridge socket.

    • 4

Unscrew the remaining screws and remove the lower heat shield. Wipe the heat shield and the bottom portion of the system case. Reassemble the system once all the pieces have been cleaned.

Tips & Warnings

  • Unplug your system before you begin cleaning and handle the heat shields with care.
