How to Make Short MP3 Samples With Nero 8

Making MP3 samples is useful if you want to play excerpts of a song online, a portable media device or for playback on your mobile phone. The Nero 8 software suite, mostly recognized for Nero Burning ROM (the CD, DVD and Blu-Ray authoring tool), also includes many other applications. The Nero Wave Editor is particularly useful for making quick and basic sound edits, for example making shortened samples of longer files.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start" then "All Programs" and click "Nero StartSmart."

    • 2

Click the Nero "burn" icon in the bottom left of Nero StartSmart to bring up the list of program options. Click "Nero WaveEditor" to open the program.

    • 3

Click "File" then "Open." Locate the audio file you want to make a shortened sample from, select it then click "Open."

    • 4

Click the play button to listen to your audio file. When you know which parts you want to make the sample from, click and drag to highlight that selection. Audio is displayed in the peak wave form that takes up the main part of the WaveEditor window. Click at the beginning of your chosen selection then drag to the right to the end of your chosen selection.

    • 5

Click "Edit" then click "Crop." This crops your audio selection down to the sample you want.

    • 6

Click "File" then "Save As." Desginate a location for your MP3 sample to go. Click the "File Type" drop-down menu and select "MP3 (*.mp3)" from that list. Click "Save." You have now created an MP3 sample using the Nero 8 software suite.
