How to Start House Painting Business
Many home owners perform house remodeling and repair tasks by themselves. However, one task many people find difficult to do alone is painting. Anyone interested in going into business for himself may find success by starting a house painting business. This business opportunity has the advantages of low start-up cost, need for the service in most communities and limited required training. Like any other business, careful business planning increases your chances of success.

1
Make a business plan, planning what neighborhoods will likely provide the most business. Decide whether you will focus on painting the interior or exterior of houses or both. Call other painting services in your area to compare prices and get an idea of how much to charge.
-
2
Check with your city for any required permits and file as necessary. Get a liability insurance policy for your business. Open a new, separate bank account for your business to make it easier to keep separate records for accounting and tax purposes. Getting bonded may make some customers feel more secure about the amount of access you have to their homes and possessions.

3
Hire additional employees. Perform criminal background checks on employees, which is especially important because workers will have access to clients' homes. Hiring workers with painting experience could save time used on additional training.
-
4
Buy supplies and equipment needed. Most important is a large vehicle, like a pickup truck or van, for transporting ladders and painting supplies. Buy ladders, extension poles, a variety of brushes and rollers and drop cloths. Some painters also buy clothes specifically for wearing on the job, like overalls and boots.

5
Solicit business for new customers. Hand out fliers in residential neighborhoods and place ads in free local newspapers. Post business cards or fliers on bulletin boards at home improvement stores, but get permission first from the store manager. Place a magnetic sign on your work vehicle advertising the business.
