Use Windows Media Player to copy music from a CD to your computer.

You can transfer music from a CD to a computer using media software such as Windows Media Player, which comes pre-installed on all Windows-based computers. Once you’ve imported the music from a CD to your computer, you’ll be able to burn additional CDs, email the music files to friends or simply archive your music collection.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Windows Media Player.

    • 2

Insert the CD that contains the music you would like to transfer into your computer's disc drive.

    • 3

Click the button labeled “Rip” at the top of the program.

    • 4

Click the “Start Rip” button in the bottom right corner of Windows Media Player. The music from the CD will be transferred to your computer. When finished, you can access the music files through the Windows Media Player music library. To access these files outside of Windows Media Player, simply click the “Start” button and select the “Music” folder.
