For people who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, wearing a wrist brace can help to reduce the pain and tingling in the hands and fingers. Wrist braces are available in most large stores and pharmacies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrist Braces
  • Wrist braces
  1. Step 1

Choose a right or left brace. If you are having carpal tunnel pain in your left hand, choose a wrist brace marked "left."

  2. Step 2

Insert your thumb through the hole on the thumb side of the wrist brace.

  3. Step 3

Slip the brace against the back of your wrist.

  4. Step 4

Center the brace on the top of your forearm so that it rests comfortably.

  5. Step 5

Tighten the velcro strap closest to your wrist first.

  6. Step 6

Tighten the velcro strap that runs over the thumb next.

  7. Step 7

Press and hold your thumb and little finger together. This movement indicates you'll have enough looseness in the brace to ensure a proper fit.

  8. Step 8

Tighten the upper forearm velcro strap next.

  9. Step 9

Check that the other two straps fit comfortably. Retighten as needed. Make sure the straps are snug, but not tight.

  10. Step 10

Release thumb and little finger. This relaxes your arm inside the brace.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is a stay or rod, usually made of form-fitting plastic, that adheres to the contours of your wrist and arm. You may experience a period of discomfort as the brace contours to your arm and begins to fit comfortably.
  • Wear your wrist brace two hours on and one hour off whenever you are using your wrist.
  • Consult your doctor for persistent carpal tunnel pain.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, contact a physician or other healthcare professional before engaging in any activity related to health and diet. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
