How to Clean Dog Pee from a Carpet

Remove urine stains that your dog leaves behind on your carpet to keep the carpet in good condition.

Accidents happen with dogs and the stains that they leave behind can because frustrating. Urine smells on your carpet can linger and become permanent if you do not clean and treat the area immediately. Urine stains can also stain carpets and cause discoloration. Once you notice a urine stain left behind by your dog, you can use common household items to remove it from your carpet.

Things You'll Need

• Paper towels
• 1 cup water
• Baking soda
• Vacuum
• Vinegar
• Spray bottle
• Carpet shampoo machine or wet-dry vacuum

Instructions

1. Blot the urine stain with paper towels. Avoid rubbing the area because it will cause the urine to soak deeper into the carpet.

2. Dilute the urine in the carpet with water. Pour 1 cup of water over the urine spot, and then blot it with paper towels to remove the yellow steam.

3. Sprinkle baking soda over the area to cover it completely. Allow the baking soda to set for 2 to 3 hours.

4. Vacuum the area to remove the baking soda

5. Spray the urine stain with a mixture of one part vinegar and 2 parts water. Allow the vinegar to dry to remove the urine smell from the carpet.

6. Clean the carpet with a carpet shampoo machine or rinse the area thoroughly with water and vacuum it with a wet-dry vacuum.
