How to Clean Coffee Out of a Carpet

Remove coffee stains from your carpet with common household items.

If you spilled fresh coffee on your carpet, you may begin to panic. Coffee can leave behind an unpleasant stain and it can make your carpet appear dirty if you do not tend to it immediately. Coffee stains are often stubborn to remove from the carpet. If you take the time to remove the stains as soon as you notice them, then you will not have to resort to commercial products to aid you in the stain removal.

Things You'll Need

• Paper towels
• Cold water
• Washcloths
• 2 cups warm water
• 1/4 cup lemon juice
• Bowl
• 1 tsp. liquid dish detergent
• Sponge
• Towel

Instructions

1. Place paper towels over the coffee stain. Blot the stain with the paper towels to absorb as much of the coffee as possible.

2. Pour cold water over the coffee. Do not use too much because you do not want it to sink in to the carpet pad. Flush the stain with 1 cup of water, and then blot it up with a clean washcloth.

3. Combine 2 cups of warm water with 1/4 cup of lemon juice in a bowl. Add 1 tsp. of liquid dish detergent and stir gently.

4. Place a sponge in the cleaning solution. Wring out any excess liquid, and rub the sponge on the stain starting from the outside and working your way in toward the middle.

5. Rinse the stain with clean water. Blot the area again with a washcloth to remove the stain.

6. Keep applying the cleaning solution to the area. Rinse the stain and continue to blot to remove the coffee stain.

7. Dry the area by blotting it with a towel. Remove as much moisture as possible, and allow the area to air-dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Pour salt over a fresh coffee stain if you do not have time to clean it right away. The salt will absorb the moisture.
