How to Remove Rust From a Cast-Iron Kettle
Most people enjoy a good cup of tea or coffee. Kettles are a convenient way to boil the water for a hot beverage. But a cast-iron kettle has inconveniences as well. In addition to its high price, cast-iron kettles are prone to reddish-brown rust. Such cookware is unattractive. Things You'll Need
- Fine steel-wool pad
- Dishwashing liquid
- Kitchen brush
- Dish cloth
- Cooking or vegetable oil
- Aluminum foil

Scrub off the surface rust, using a steel-wool pad. Scrub back and forth or in small circles to get rid of the stains.

Clean the kettle with dishwashing liquid and hot water. Use a kitchen scrubbing brush for the more difficult rust stains on the kettle. Dry with a dish cloth.

Apply a small amount of vegetable oil to the surface of the kettle with a paper towel. The application of oil helps “re-season” the cast-iron skillet, according to Mother Earth News.

Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom rack of the oven.

Turn on the oven from 325 to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the kettle on the top rack of the oven. Leave in for a few hours.

Turn off the oven. Allow the kettle and oven to cool down. The kettle is re-seasoned and should remain rust-free for a few months.

Remove the kettle from the oven. Store it as usual or place on top of the stove.
