How to Clean the Trackball on a Mighty Mouse
Apple's Mighty Mouse comes with a top-mounted trackball, officially referred to a scroll ball by Apple. Although Apple does not specify a cleaning interval for the ball, they recommend cleaning it if the trackball looks or feels dirty or if you have trouble using it because it is stiff or stuck. The recommended cleaning procedure is the same for the wireless and wired Mighty Mouse.

1
Unplug your Mighty Mouse's cord. If your Mighty Mouse is wireless, flip the power switch off and depress the bottom-side release lever to remove the battery cover. Slide the two AA batteries out of the mouse.
-
2
Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with a small amount of water. Be sure not to oversaturate the cloth; it should be only slightly moistened.

3
Place the cloth in one hand and position the Might Mouse upside down with the other. The trackball should face downward.
-
4
Roll the lint-free cloth back and forth vigorously over the trackball, then work the cloth left and right. After a few moments in each direction, the trackball should be clean and operating normally. If you still have problems with it, repeat the cleaning process.
