How to Design Letterhead Paper

How to Design Letterhead Paper thumbnail
Businesses and individuals should use letterheads when sending business or professional corresponsdence.

Businesses and individuals often use letterhead paper when sending letters and other correspondence to business and professional contacts. The purpose of letterhead paper is to allow the recipient of the letter to identify the sender immediately upon opening the letter, as opposed to waiting for the signature line at the end of the document to identify the sender. A letterhead also contains an individual’s or business’s contact information, which simplifies the response process for the recipient.

Instructions

Sketch out a basic design for your letterhead using a pencil and blank sheet of paper. A letterhead typically includes the name of the company or individual, an address, telephone and fax numbers, an email address or website address, and a company logo. This information is usually located within the top two inches of the paper. There is no right or wrong way to place this information on the page. One traditional method of placing the information is to place the business logo in the top-left corner of the page, the business name and address in the center, and the telephone number and additional contact information in the top-right corner.

Choose a medium for creating your letterhead. You may use the word processing application on your home or work computer, or you can design your letterhead at a business printing website. Two popular business printing sites are located in the Resource section.

Open a new word processing document on your computer, or navigate your Web browser to the Web page of the business printing service that you selected in Step 2. Type your business name, address and contact information into your blank word processing page, or into the letterhead design tool on the website that you are using. Upload your company logo if applicable. To upload a logo in your word processing application, select the “Insert” option from the tool bar at the top of your page. Select “Image” >> “From File” from the drop-down menu. Select the file containing your logo and click “OK." To upload your logo into a website letterhead design tool, click the “Upload Image” option within the design template. Again, choose the file from the document library on your computer that contains your logo.
