How to Take the Electrician Test in the State of Louisiana
Louisiana requires any person whose business is to install electrical wires, fixtures, conduits or appliances to hold an electrical contractor license. In order to obtain a license, applicants must pass the electrical contractor test. The test covers different aspects of the electrical trade including questions about conducts, motors and controls, low-voltage circuits, and general knowledge. There are 80 questions. You must answer at least 70 percent of the questions correctly to pass. Exams are administered Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Contact the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) by calling 225-765-2301. Ask the clerk to send you an application for your Electrical Contractor License. The LSLBC only accepts original copies of the application.

Complete the application and pay the fees for the study materials and exam. As of 2010, the fees are $100 for the exam and $40 for the study materials. Out-of-state applicants also must undergo an investigation before becoming licensed and, as of 2010, must pay $400 in addition to the exam and study materials fees. It takes 60 days for the investigation to be completed.

Study the exam materials and take the electrical contractor license practice questions. Wait for the LSLBC to send you information regarding your examination date and time.

Bring proof of identification and writing materials to the LSLBC offices located at 2525 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge to take the exam. Check-in time for the exam typically is at 8:30 a.m.
