You can fix your iTunes software problems on any Windows XP computer system.

The eighth version of Apple iTunes is a media player program designed for both Windows- and Mac-based systems. With iTunes, you may download audio tracks to the computer and upload the information onto your iPod. However, if the music is not functioning properly or if the content is not downloading to your program, you need to troubleshoot the software to correct any issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your Internet connection running into your computer. If the Ethernet cable is not inserted completely your computer is not going to access the iTunes Store.

    • 2

Place iTunes on the acceptable program list for your firewall. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "Windows firewall" and choose "Exceptions." Check off iTunes and click "Apply." This makes sure your firewall does not block iTunes v8 from connecting to the Internet.

    • 3

Open iTunes and click "File," "Search for Updates." The program connects to its home server without opening an Internet browser and scans for any updates. If updates are available, download these (they install automatically once finished). The updated information corrects most issues with the program.

    • 4

Check your USB data cable that is running from the computer to your iPod. If the USB cable is not inserted completely into either the computer or the iPod, iTunes is not going to detect the connected MP3 player. Try a different USB port to see if the original one is no longer functioning.

    • 5

Double-click the sound icon in the lower-right corner of the Windows XP desktop if you don't hear any music coming from the speakers. The sound options menu appears on the screen. Uncheck any option that is "Muted." If the audio is muted, the iTunes media player is not going to play audio over your speakers.
