How to Clean Coils in Your Central Air Conditioner Naturally
Central air conditioner coils build up dirt and dust over time, forcing the unit to work harder to keep your home cool. Aside from increasing energy use, dirty coils can shorten the life of your central air conditioner. Avoid HVAC cleaners and other chemicals--clean the coils naturally with a garden hose and vacuum. Turn the power off to the central air conditioner.

Unscrew the top grille cover from the outside unit with a screwdriver. Gently lift off the cover and fan. Set them aside.

Vacuum the metal fins and coils on the central air unit. Be sure to remove any leaves or other debris from the coils.

Spray the air conditioner fins from the inside out.

Replace the fan and grille cover. Turn the power back on.
