Making Snow Globes With Children
Make a snow globe for a fun winter activity with children. Children will enjoy making this craft and seeing the finished result--an interactive toy they can play with and watch sparkle as the glitter "snow" falls down inside the world of the snow globe. This craft will encourage patience, as it takes two days for the glue to dry. Making such a craft will show that careful work takes time and is rewarded with a fun finished product.
Things You'll Need
- Clean, small jar
- Waterproof glue
- Baby oil

1
Choose a small plastic figurine for the inside of the snow globe with the child. Explain that the figurine will "live" in the snow globe and that the child will not be able to take it out to play with.
-
2
Have the child squeeze a generous amount of waterproof glue to the bottom of the chosen figurine. Adhere the figurine to the inside of a small jar's lid. Allow the glue to dry, placing the lid with the figurine in a location that will not be disturbed. Have the child write down the time they glued the figurine on a piece of paper and lay it next to the project. Explain that he will continue the project the next day at that same time.

3
Pour baby oil into the jar, filling it three-fourths full. Have the child scoop a spoonful (around a teaspoon) of silver glitter into the jar with the baby oil.
-
4
Place a line of waterproof glue around the inside lip of the lid. Have the child screw the lid onto the jar, then help by giving the lid a few more turns to be sure it is tightly in place. Leave the jar face-up, so that the figurine is upside-down for another 24 hours, having the child write down the time as before.
-
5
Have the child turn the completed snow globe over and watch the glittering "snow" fall.
