Make Mexican crepe paper flowers for a celebration.

Crepe paper flowers are simple crafts that can decorate a room or create a colorful bouquet. You can see them at festivals such as Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. However, you can choose to make them for any festive purpose. Try making a variety of colors, choosing warm colors such as reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows for a more natural look or mixing in blues and purples to make a more exotic bouquet.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut several sheets of crepe paper into squares, laying the sheets on top of each other to facilitate cutting.

    • 2

Lay five sheets of crepe papers squares on top of each other, using the same color for a single-colored flower or a variety of shades to make the petals all different colors.

    • 3

Fold the pile of squares like an accordion, folding 1/2 inch of one side away from you and creasing, then flipping the paper over and folding that same portion 1/2 inch toward you and creasing. Repeat this folding action until you reach the end of the square.

    • 4

Orient the folded rectangle so you see many folds at once along the top edge with the rectangle lying horizontally.

    • 5

Wrap 1/2 inch of a green pipe cleaner around the center of the rectangle, wrapping around the thinner sides so it looks like a bow tie. Tuck the remaining end of the side you are wrapping flush with the crepe paper so it does not stick out. Arrange the loose end of the pipe cleaner so it faces down, perpendicular to the rectangle.

    • 6

Lift the layers of crepe paper, one at a time, up to the center of the flower. Twist the petals to loosen and rearrange them to create a more natural look.

    • 7

Cut an additional pipe cleaner in half and twist around the bottom of the flower, securing the blossom and encouraging the flower to bunch together rather than stick out like a bow tie.

Tips & Warnings
