Make a calendar for your desk for free.

Keep your entire schedule in easy access by creating a desk calendar. You'll be able to see scheduled meetings, birthdays, family events, doctor appointments and holidays, all with a customized design and at no cost, using your computer's Paint program. Paint is simple software included with your computer's installation and it may be used to create free desk calendars. With just a couple of minutes' time, you can create a view of your upcoming months schedule.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Paint software, click "Image" and select "Attributes." Set your preferred desk calendar dimensions; for a standard page of copy paper, set the size as 11 inches wide by 8.5 inches high and click "OK."

    • 2

Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A," and position your cursor at the top of the page. Type the month, such as "December." (Optional: Add the year, such as 2010.)

    • 3

Click the "Line" tool and draw a line underneath the month text, all the way across the page horizontally, from the left side to the right side. Draw four more of those lines, dividing the rest of the page equally into five even rows.

    • 4

Draw six vertical lines equally dividing the rows, from below the row with the month text in it to the bottom of the page. You should have seven columns.

    • 5

Click the "Text" tool again, select a font in a small size, then click into the first square of the first row and column. Then type "Sunday." Click into the next square and type "Monday." Continue across the row until you type "Saturday" in the last square of the row.

    • 6

Check a datebook or your computer's on-screen calendar to see on what day of the week the month starts. Click into that day (such as Wednesday) and type a "1." Move to the next square and type "2," continuing until you reach the end of the month. Note that if your calendar is for February, be sure to check whether the current year is a leap year.

    • 7

Select a new color from the "Color Picker" at the bottom of the screen. Click inside a date of the month and type a special occasion, such as "Mom's Birthday," "Dentist Appointment" or "Grandparents' Anniversary." Repeat to fill in any other dates to remember.

    • 8

(Optional) Click the "Paintbrush" tool, select the small round brush head and choose a new paint color. Draw a design on a date of the calendar, such as a pumpkin for Halloween or a shamrock for St. Patrick's Day.

Tips & Warnings

  • Most basic, inexpensive printers can't print larger than a standard 8.5-inch by 11-inch paper size. If you have access to a more robust printer (such as one in an office) and bigger paper, you'll be able to make a bigger desk calendar. Another option is to break up your calendar into 8.5 inch by 11 inch chunks, printing sections on each page, then fitting them together on a piece of cardboard.
