Disable the Windows XP log-on screen.

When Windows XP starts up, the user is faced with a log-on screen and a list of users that have accounts on the computer. If you're not worried about security or have only one account enabled on Windows XP, you can disable the log-on screen and have your computer automatically log-in to Windows upon startup.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button and click "Run."

    • 2

Type "control userpasswords2" in the dialog that appears and click "OK."

    • 3

Disable the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option.

    • 4

Click "OK." Restart your computer for the changes to take effect and to test your results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Even though there is no log-on screen, you can still have different user accounts. To switch users, simply use the "Log Off" option in the Windows start menu.
