How to Remove Wax Buildup from Bathroom Floors
Wax buildup is caused by using commercial floor cleaners that contain wax to enhance the shine of your floor. Over time, the wax accumulates on your tile, vinyl or linoleum floor, giving your floor a yellow appearance. Things You'll Need
- 3-gallon bucket
- Ammonia
- Cream of tartar
- White vinegar
- Mop with scrubber
- Soft-bristle brush

Mix 1 of gallon warm water with ½ cup of ammonia in a bucket. Add 1 cup cream of tartar. Mix well.

Wet your mop in the ammonia solution and mop your floor. Use the scrubber on the mop (or a soft-bristle brush) to scrub the most stubborn yellow wax buildup stains. Continue until all of the wax buildup is removed from your floor.

Rinse the mop well in hot water, then mop the floor again to remove the ammonia solution.
Ceramic Tile Flooring

Fill the bucket with 2 gallons of warm water, then add 1 cup of ammonia and 1 cup of white vinegar. Mix well.

Dip your mop in the solution and mop your floor. Use the scrubber on the mop (or a soft-bristle brush) to scrub the most stubborn yellow wax buildup stains. Continue until all of the wax buildup is removed from your floor.

Place your mop under running hot water to rinse it. Mop the floor again to remove the ammonia and vinegar solution.

Tips & Warnings
Once you remove the wax buildup from your floor, re-wax the floor using a floor cleaner made for your type of floor.
Never mix ammonia with chlorine bleach, as it will create toxic fumes.
