An annulment is different from a divorce. A divorce occurs when two married people decide to legally end the marriage. An annulment, on the other hand, occurs when two people agree to legally declare the marriage never existed. Before you decide if an annulment is right for you and your marriage, you need to understand that it's difficult to get an annulment in the state of Georgia. The marriage has to meet certain requirements, and you need to be able to prove that the marriage meets those requirements.

Understand the acceptable reasons in the state of Georgia for getting an annulment. Valid reasons include marriages that involve incest, an underage spouse, mental incapacitation and bigamy.
