How to Convert a Book on Tape to an MP3
Although it has been years since audio cassette tapes were the norm, many of us still have old books on tape lying around our houses. Rather than fumbling around with old tape decks and dealing with the old hassles associated with cassette tapes, it may be easier to "rip" the audio from the cassettes onto a computer and convert it to MP3 format. That way, you can burn the audio books onto CDs and enjoy them with slightly more modern technology.

Converting the Audio

1
Plug the output cord from the computer into the tape deck. This is usually the standard red/white RCA cable, although the mini-jack variety may be needed for some brands of tape decks.
-
2
Use specialized ripping software, such as Media Digitalizer, to extract the audio off the cassette. Unlike ripping a CD or DVD, you'll have to rip the audio cassette in real time, meaning that you'll have to play the entire book on tape.

Use standard software to convert the audio files on your computer into MP3, if necessary. This can easily be done with many major audio software programs, such as iTunes.
