How to Make a Beaded Magnetic Bracelet & Necklace

While few studies have proven that magnetic jewelry can improve your health, you can still make and wear your own magnetic bracelets and necklaces. It may help you feel better, but it will definitely give you a unique and handmade set of jewelry to spice up your regular wardrobe.

Instructions

    • 1

Design your necklace and bracelet, keeping at least one magnetic bead for every two to three nonmagnetic beads. This bead ratio ensures that your magnetic beads have the critical concentration necessary to keep all of the strands of the bracelet together. While only a few years ago, the colors and shapes of magnetic beads were relatively limited, you can now find magnetic beads in almost any shape and color, which will definitely enliven the design process.

    • 2

Purchase your materials. Often, craft stores do not carry a wide variety of magnetic beads, so you will probably need to look online for these at reputable dealers like Fire Mountain Gems and Beads or Artbeads.com, or another site you trust. You will also need a very strong beading cord or wire, so that your string material does not snap due to the heavy weight of most magnetic beads.

    • 3

Slide a crimp bead, a bead tip, and then a second crimp bead onto the end of your beading cord or wire. Most jewelry only requires one crimp bead to secure the beads onto the necklace, but the extra weight of magnetic beads requires a double-crimp to make sure that the necklace does not break.

    • 4

Secure the crimp beads onto the wire using your crimp pliers, and then add a small dot of glue onto each crimp to ensure that the crimps do not come undone. Then close your bead tip around the first crimp bead to hide it.

    • 5

String your beads onto your beading cord to make either a necklace or a bracelet. The double crimp plus the bead tip should keep all of your beads on the string.

    • 6

Repeat steps 3 and 4 to finish the other side of your piece.

    • 7

Open up a jump ring, pass it through the loop of your bead tip and clasp, and close it again to attach half your clasp onto one side of your jewelry. Then do this again to the same side of your clasp to create a double-jump ring closure. This much more secure connection ensures that your jewelry will not break. While you might be tempted to use a magnetic clasp for this jewelry, don't do it; magnetic clasps, ironically enough, are not strong enough to withstand the weight of magnetic beads.

Repeat step 7 to finish the other side of your necklace or bracelet. You can use the exact same steps to create both a necklace and bracelet for your magnetic set.
