Decorating Glass Bottles With Wire & Beads

Save

Instead of spending a lot of money on decorative glass bottles, make your own using wire and beads. You can customize the look of the bottles by choosing the bead style and colors. Enhance everything from a basic soda bottle to a vintage piece with seed or pony beads. Design elegantly decorated bottles to use as wedding reception table items, dinner party centerpieces or wall shelf decor. You can also make bejeweled glass bottles as creative birthday and holiday gifts.

Things You'll Need

  • Glass bottle
  • 22-gauge wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Glass beads
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Decorative items, such as flowers
  • Choose a glass bottle to decorate with beads and wire. Use a vibrant blue or green glass flea market find, or an elegant crystal vessel. Decorate a vintage wine bottle for an artistic look.

  • Cut a piece of silver or gold-tone 22-gauge wire with wire cutters. Create a small or large piece of wire depending on the size of the glass bottle, and how much of it you want to decorate.

  • Use needle-nose pliers to create a small loop at one end of the wire. Slide glass beads onto the wire, filling the entire length. Loop the opposite end of wire with the pliers to secure the beads. Use colorful tiny seed beads or slightly larger pony beads, depending on the style you are going for. Use all one color beads, or choose a variety of shades for a rainbow look.

  • Wrap the beaded wire around the glass bottle. Start at the bottom and wrap the wire all the way around the bottle, ending at the top of the collar. Or, decorate just the bottle collar with a small piece of beaded wire, wrapping the wire ends around a nail to create a corkscrew effect.

  • Fill the beaded bottle with decorative items. Enhance a clear bottle featuring pink beads with fresh-cut sweetheart roses. Decorate a a beach-inspired blue bottle featuring green beads with faux sea grass stems. Place sophisticated calla lilies in an elegantly decorated wine bottle.
