How to Make Your Own Word Jumbles

Word Jumbles are word games in which the order that a certain word is spelled has been jumbled up. These word games are one way for adults and kids to learn new vocabulary words. Making your own word jumbles is very easy to do and requires only that you include all the letters for the word you're jumbling.

Things You'll Need

• Two sheets of notebook paper
• Pencil

Instructions

1. Write down a list of five or more words on a sheet of notebook paper using a pencil. These words should be related to a certain topic, such as the names of animals or interesting cities in the world. Longer words will be easier to jumble and harder to solve.

2. Write down the same list on a separate sheet of notebook paper, but this time change the order of the letters that make up the word. For example, if one of your words is "hippopotamus," write something like "tapopipusom," ensuring that all letters are present.

3. Label the sheet with all the jumbled up words on it with a word or phrase that might serve as a clue for whoever is solving the puzzle. For example, a list of words that includes a scrambled version of the word "hippopotamus" might be labeled "Jungle Animals."

4. Hand the sheet with the scrambled versions of the words to a friend or family member to see if they can solve your word jumble puzzle.
