How to Make a Maya Wrap Baby Sling
The Maya Wrap baby sling is a safe way to give your baby the comfort of being close to you without putting your back out. The fine people who created the Maya Wrap not only sell a great product, but they designed it with such simplicity that you can make one all by yourself with some fabric, rings and a sewing machine. Visit the Maya Wrap website for instructions on how to tie your sling after you make your own.
Things You'll Need
- Cotton or cotton/poly blend material, 2 1/2 yards by 1 yard
- Sewing machine
- 2 3-inch heavy-duty metal rings
Instructions
-
-
1
Hem one 36-inch end of the fabric. Fold the end of the fabric and secure the fold with a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine.
-
2
Lay the material out on a table crosswise, so that the fabric is laying wide in front of you.
-
-
3
Fold the material horizontally into a fan. Make 4-inch folds back and forth until all of the material is 2 1/2 yards long and folded into an accordion shape.
-
4
Lay the two rings on top of each other and slide them 4 inches down onto the unhemmed end of the fan.
-
5
Fold the short piece of the material over the rings and sew it in place. The rings will now be secured to the rest of the material.

Tips & Warnings
Use a material that is attractive no matter which side you look at, because both sides will be visible.
Make sure the sling is securely wrapped around you before you put your baby in it.
