Directions to Install an HP Deskjet Ink Cartridge
HP Deskjet printers use small plastic ink cartridges that house liquid ink. These cartridges travel in a cartridge carriage, which slides back and forth along the width of the printer, allowing the liquid ink to spray out of the cartridges and onto blank pages. You can install one of these ink cartridges in only a few minutes, and with little technical know-how. The amount of pages you print and the ink coverage on these pages will determine how often you will need to install new ink cartridges in your Deskjet printer.

1
Turn on the Deskjet printer and allow it to go through its warmup process.
-
2
Open the printer's ink cartridge access door, located either on the front or top of the printer, depending on your printer's model. Wait for the cartridge carriage to move to the center of the printer and stop completely.

3
Take the ink cartridge out of its packaging. Peel off the tape from the bottom and back of the ink cartridge.
-
4
Insert the ink cartridge into the carriage with the HP logo facing upward, making sure it clicks into place. The color and shape of the label on the cartridge should match the label on the slot in the carriage.
-
5
Close the ink cartridge access door. Wait as the printer calibrates the new ink cartridge before using the printer.
