How to Troubleshoot Microsoft Outlook 2000
Microsoft Outlook 2000 is an older email client installed on some older computers. Outlook 2000 sends and receives email from your designated email server. You may have issues when you first set up Outlook 2000, and your email is not sent. There are a some common issues that cause email issues in Outlook 2000. By following a few troubleshooting standards you can fix some of these email issues with Outlook.

Click the "Tools" menu item in Outlook and select "Options." This opens a preferences window for your email client. Check the box labeled "Send messages immediately when connected." This sends any drafts or saved sent messages as soon as you boot Outlook.

Click the "Tools" menu item again and select "Accounts." This opens a list of configured email accounts on your client. Click the email account giving you problems and click "Properties." This opens a new window.

Click the "General" tab. Click the check box labeled "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing." This options sends and receives email each time you click the "Send/Receive" button. Also check your return address and name in the "User Information" section. This ensures that users can reply to your emails, and the response is sent to the correct email address.

Click the "Servers" tab. Ensure that your incoming and outgoing email servers are entered correctly. These server names are provided by your Internet server provider. Incorrectly entered email servers causes your email messages to fail when being sent. In this same window, check the account name entered. The correct user name and password are required to connect to the email server.

Click the "Advanced" tab. The typical outgoing SMTP port is 25. If your Internet provider gave you an alternative outgoing port, enter the number in the text box labeled "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)." In the "Incoming email" port text box, enter an alternative port number if one is provided by the Internet service provider. These alternative ports sometimes fix issues if the main server port is busy.
