DIY Bathroom Flooring Installation
When you're deciding how to redo your bathroom floor, one thing to consider is ease of installation. Hard tiles like ceramic look great, but the bathroom floor involves some complicated cuts (around the tub and toilet), which could be a problem for a novice. A better starting project might be to lay a vinyl tile floor in that bathroom. Tile is cheaper and simpler to install, and the cuts are easily made with a standard utility knife. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the toilet by turning off the water line behind it, disconnecting the line with your wrench, removing the mounting bolts at the toilet base, and pulling the toilet straight up.
-
2
Divide the bathroom floor into four squares by snapping two intersecting chalk snap lines across it, with the intersection in the middle. Use a square to ensure the two lines are perpendicular to each other.
-
-
3
Spread tiling adhesive over a few square feet at the center of the room, over the intersection of the two lines, using a notched trowel. Cover enough area to accommodate four tiles. The chalk snaplines will be visible through the glue.
-
4
Set the first tiles in place in the adhesive, at the intersection, with the lines as your guides. Press the sides of the tiles tightly together.
-
5
Lay additional adhesive and additional tiles, working your way out along the lines and toward the walls. Cut the tiles as needed with a utility knife to go against the walls and around the tub and toilet drain. Install tile on the whole floor. Let the adhesive set for a day.
