How to Attach a Satelitte Dish to Vinyl Siding

Satellite dishes can attach to vinyl siding on a house.

Satellite dishes, such as those from Dish Network and DirecTV, can be installed on a roof or on the side of a house. When a satellite dish is installed on the side of a house it may need to attach or be mounted to vinyl siding. This will require you to make sure there are studs or wood framing in place behind the siding for the mounting bracket. You can install a satellite dish to vinyl siding by first deciding where the dish will be located.

Things You'll Need

• Power drill
• Mounting bracket
• Bolts
• Socket wrench

Instructions

1. Find a location on the side of your house where you can mount the satellite dish so that it points in the southern direction.

2. Find the studs in the exterior wall with the stud finder. Mark the location of the studs in the wall with the pencil.

3. Place the mounting bracket against the vinyl siding and mark the location of the drill holes with a pencil.

4. Pre-drill holes into the siding and studs for the mounting bolts with the power drill.

5. Place the mounting bracket back up against the wall and insert the bolts into the mounting holes on the bracket.

6. Tighten the bolts with the socket wrench to secure the mounting bracket to the vinyl siding.

7. Attach the arm of the satellite dish to the bracket with the wrench and then attach the satellite dish to the arm to complete the installation.

Tips & Warnings

• If a stud is not available use a wall anchor or molly bolt to secure the mounting bracket to the subsurface beneath the vinyl siding.

• Cover the bolts with caulk to prevent them from leaking.

• If you do not use the proper hardware to mount the satellite dish it may come loose and lose the satellite signal.
