How to Clean a Hewlett-Packard 1200 LaserJet Printer
The HP LaserJet 1200 printer is an excellent choice for both home users and business owners, but in order to get the most from this compact laser printer, you need to maintain it properly. Regular cleaning is a big part of that maintenance, so learning how to clean the unit is essential. Cleaning your HP LaserJet 1200 properly will reduce the number of poor-quality printouts you receive, while helping those expensive toner cartridges to last longer.

1
Turn the HP LaserJet 1200 off and open the front cover. Carefully grasp the toner cartridge and set it aside.
-
2
Vacuum the entire interior surface of the printer. Over time, paper dust and toner residue accumulate, reducing print quality and increasing the frequency of paper jams. A small vacuum like the kind used to clean computers works best.

3
Use a soft cloth to finish cleaning the inside of the printer. Continue wiping the interior of the printer until you detect no more toner residue or paper dust.
-
4
Remove the paper tray and set it aside. Use the vacuum cleaner to suck up any toner residue and paper dust from the paper path. Follow up by cleaning the area with a soft cloth.
-
5
Load the paper tray with a few printer cleaning sheets (see Resources). These sheets are designed specifically to clean the printer paper path of dust and debris. They have a slightly sticky surface that attracts toner, paper dust and dust particles. Running one or two printer cleaning sheets through the printer once a month is one of the best ways to keep your printer clean and avoid problems.
