Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a tax due, you must attach a check to your completed form 1040.

  • You are not required to send in copies of W-2s if you are e-filing.

  • E-filing instructions will depend on the type of software you are using to prepare form 1040.

  • While preparing your form 1040, you may need to complete several forms or schedules that are required to be attached to your form 1040. The form 1040 instructions will refer you to any other forms or schedules that need to be completed.

  • If you have complicated tax issues, such as owning your own business, owning rentals or running a farm, it would be to your advantage to consult with a tax professional before completing form 1040.
