      Visit the websites of the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Canadian Police Information Centre to gather information on private investigating in Ontario. If you are not a citizen of Canada, than you must be 18 years or older and have no criminal record to qualify to work in Canada.

      Apply for a clearance letter from the Canadian Police Information Centre that states that you have not been convicted of any type of criminal act. To apply for the letter, visit Toronto Police Service at 40 College St. Toronto, Ontario. You will be required to show two proofs of identification. You will also be required to pay a processing fee.

      Enroll in a private investigator training class. The training course must be approved by the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The ministry's website includes information on approved training centers.

      Register, complete and pass the Security Guard and Private Investigator License exam. You must pay the exam fee before you can begin. Typically, you will be notified of your results about five business days after you have completed the exam.
