How to Dye Hair Blond That Is Already Dyed Black
Hair that is dyed black is a hard shade to remove from the hair, but it is possible with a bleach that removes hair color. Since the color is so dark, it must be removed thoroughly before dyeing the hair a blond shade. While it is possible to try various hair colors, bleaching and removing color will leave hair fragile, so it is not advised to do it often. Professionals advise going to your hair salon, so a stylist may remove and treat hair to reduce damage, but you may also remove and dye your hair at home using various products. 1
Purchase a hair-color remover to bleach out the black pigment from the hair. Hair-color remover strips away dye layer by layer, leaving your hair to go from black, brown, red, orange and white as it takes away black dye.
-
2
Mix hair-color remover according to package instructions and apply it to the entire head of hair. Make sure it is evenly distributed to reduce patchy areas that do not fully remove the color. Leave on the hair as directed, usually 60 minutes.

-
3
Rinse the hair-color remover out thoroughly and apply a toner to wet hair to neutralize any brassy or yellow tones in the newly bleached hair. To keep hair light before adding a blond dye, choose a toner that is light blond or light golden blond.
-
4
Allow the toner to sit on the hair as long as suggested by the packaging, usually 30 to 45 minutes. Rinse the hair and blow dry thoroughly to begin the actually blond-dyeing process.
-
5
Mix the processor and color together in the provided bottle found in the at-home hair-color kit. Apply to the entire head, making sure to get hair saturated from roots to tip. Allow the color to stay on the hair as long as directed, usually 25 to 45 minutes.
-
6
Rinse out hair in warm water and continue to rinse until the water runs clear. Apply the provided deep conditioner from the hair-color kit to the hair and leave on for five minutes. Rinse again.
-
7
Apply a deep conditioning hair masque to the hair weekly to nourish hair. Deep-conditioning masques keep the hair strong and helps the hair regain health after a damaging hair-color treatment.
