Job Corps is a program established in 1964 through the United States Department of Labor program. The Job Corps program is designed to provide career training and education assistance for young adults aged 16 to 24. Job Corps services operate in all 50 states and Puerto Rico with over 120 locations set up in cities across the country. An average of 100,000 young people are admitted into the program each year. If you are interested in signing up for Job Corps, you should know the procedure for enrollment and the requirements that each applicant must meet in order to be accepted.

      Visit your local Job Corps recruitment office or request an informational packet from the Job Corps website. Review the information, and try to determine if you are eligible for enrollment in a Job Corps program. The program is open to individuals who are at least 16 years of age and those who have not yet reached their 25th birthday at the time of enrollment. Job Corps is specifically designed to low income or high risk individuals. Individuals in the foster care system, those who are currently homeless or receiving welfare benefits and those who have dropped out of school are generally considered eligible.

      Call the main number for Job Corps at 1-800-733-JOBS, or 1-800-733-5627. Speak with an operator, and request the address and telephone number of the nearest Job Corps facility in your area. Call the local center and the number provided, and make an appointment to meet with a Job Corps admission counselor. Dress neatly and professionally for your appointment with the admissions representative, and be sure to arrive on time to your scheduled appointment. Bring your driver's license, student ID or passport to along with any other documentation requested to show proof of your age and U.S citizenship status.

      Verify with the admissions counselor that you meet the qualifications for the program, and fill out the necessary application paperwork provided to you by the representative. Talk with the representative about the program and about your goals, and select a Job Corps career vocation for which you would like to apply. Ask your parents or guardians to sign the applicable forms for permission to enroll if you are under the age of 18. Make a doctor's appointment to complete a physical examination. Submit all of the application forms, permission slips, school records, medical forms and proof of identification to the Job Corp location for approval.
