How to File State of Hawaii Income Taxes
The state of Hawaii is one of 43 states that require residents to file a state income tax return as well as a federal income tax return. Hawaiians are only required to file if their income exceeds their standard deduction. Hawaii's Department of Taxation allows residents who file to submit their income tax returns to them electronically and by mail.

Register with the Hawaii Department of Taxation to file your tax return electronically (see Resources). Enter your personal information, filing information and create a user name and password. Submit your registration and log in.

Click on the link marked "E-File Information". Choose which tax form you would like to electronically file and which online tax provider you wish to use to electronically file your tax return. Click on the link to its Web site and begin filling out your income tax form.

Follow the prompts and instructions provided to you by your online tax provider for filling out your tax form. Enter all required information and any additional information you may have. Required information includes your personal information, such as name, address and social security number as well as income and deduction information.

Review the information you provided and submit your tax return to the Hawaii Department of Taxation electronically.

Tips & Warnings
You may also choose to fill out your tax forms by hand and mail them to the Hawaii Department of Taxation (see Resources). All information for each form, including the address to which to mail it, is provided in the instructions for each different Hawaii state tax form.
