1
Turn on the sink next to your dishwasher and determine if it is draining properly. When a clog occurs in the sink or dishwasher, they are both affected because of the common drain they both use.
-
2
Check the dishwasher's air gap for any clogs. The air gap can be found next to the faucet on the sink. Lift the air gap cover and clear any clog that you find. Put the air gap cover back on.

3
Run the water on your sink and turn on the garbage disposal. Let the garbage disposal run for 10 seconds to clear any debris in its way.
-
4
Go under the sink and check the drain hoses connected to the dishwasher. Clear any kinks that you find by straightening the hose.
-
5
Make sure that your dishwasher is closing properly and that the door latches completely. When the door isn't latching properly, water will leak from the machine.
