How to Clean & Maintain an HP LaserJet 5000

The HP LaserJet 5000 is a large office printer that creates 16 pages per minute. In order to maintain peak performance and make sure it functions properly at all times, you need to keep it clean. This prevents dust from building up inside the printer and possibly damaging the inner workings or even blocking ink from ejecting out of the printer head.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth to remove dust buildup. Pay close attention to the rear of the printer where the power and USB cables connect.

    • 2

Pull open the paper tray on the front of the printer. Remove the paper and look for any dust buildup. Because the tray is usually closed, there shouldn't be any. If there is, clean it out with a damp cloth. Wait for the tray to dry, and place the paper back into it.

    • 3

Open the ink compartment on the back of the LaserJet. Grip the cartridge from the bottom, then pull up and toward yourself to remove it. Wipe a damp cotton swab across the head of the cartridge. This removes dried ink and dust, allowing the ink to expel from the cartridge properly. Place the cartridge back into place and close the compartment.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the printer away from sunny windows. The white of the printer is easily stained by sunlight, and over time, it can turn an off-yellow color.
