With the advent of the Internet came an increase in a classroom's reliance on Internet tools and applications. While most classrooms and schools have already incorporated the Internet into their curricula, some schools have taken the use of the Internet a step further. Cyber schools have developed in states across the nation with some of the first and finest of these institutions in Pennsylvania. Many students look to cyber schools as a viable and beneficial alternative to typical "chalk-and-desk" schools. Attending a cyber school in Pennsylvania requires patience and diligence in gathering up the appropriate records in order to withdraw from your home school and register in the cyber school of your choice.

Instructions

    • 1

Notify your home school that you are interested in applying to cyber school. You will need to cooperate with your home district in securing school records such as transcripts, an IEP or GIEP, PSSA testing records and formal withdrawal forms. Speaking with an administrator or guidance counselor is necessary to secure these documents.

    • 2

Schedule an appointment with the cyber school you've chosen to attend. Many cyber schools are willing to meet potential students at a public location if you are unable to meet them at their facilities.

    • 3

Secure personal documents such as your birth certificate, a proof of Pennsylvania residency, a copy of your parents' driver's licenses, updated immunization records, the name and physical address of your school district of residence and your name and address.

    • 4

Secure a personal computer and stable Internet connection. Many cyber schools provide personal computers to their students at no cost. Also most cyber schools require students to possess an Internet connection with the speed of DSL or better.

    • 5

Formally withdraw from your home school and register for your new cyber school. This will start the process of shifting funds from your home district to the new cyber school. Cyber schools are charter schools and so their funding comes from money paid by their students' home districts.
