Wireless router

In order to set up the wireless features of a wireless router, such as network name (SSID), security technology, password (key) and visibility, you must first type the router setup address in your Web browser. The router setup address is used by routers to set up specific Internet settings, such as connected computer IP addresses, whether or not users are required to log in before using the Internet, blocked websites (if any), and wireless Internet and networking settings. Without going to the address, wireless Internet cannot be set up, and thus, wireless computers and devices cannot connect to the Internet. This address is similar between different router manufacturers, but to access your specific router setup you must type in the right one. This router setup address will be included in your router documentation and can also be found online.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Microsoft At Home wireless network setup web page and scroll down to the third section called "Configure your wireless router."

    • 2

Look at the table showing the list of router manufacturers and corresponding Web addresses. If your manufacturer is listed in the table, copy and paste the address in your browser's address bar and hit "Enter." If it is not listed in the table, consult your router documentation (if you have it). If you don't have your router documentation, try each of the addresses listed in the table. It is likely that one of them will work with your router.

    • 3

Type in the default username and password for your router (see table or documentation), and click on the "Wireless settings" category in the left pane to open the wireless Internet setup page.
