How to Format a CD-R
A CD-R is a type of disc that allows you to burn files onto it from your computer. This type of CD allows you to burn only once to it. But before you start moving items to the disc, you must format it. This process takes a few moments and is relatively easy.

Insert your CD-R disk in your CD-ROM drive when you are ready to burn files to it.

Select "Burn files to disc" in the box that appears.

Enter a name for your CD-R disc in the box that appears.

Pick a formatting type. Live File System allows you to drag files onto the disk, keep the disc in the drive and copy files to it when you need to, but is compatible with Windows XP or later operating systems. The Mastered option is for when you want to burn many files at once to the disc and can typically be used in CD and DVD players.

Click the "Next" button. Wait a few moments for the disc to be formatted.
