How to Make Sand Paperweights
Create a beautiful reminder of your days and nights on the beach with a paperweight fashioned from colored sand. This is a good project for children, as it requires minimal supplies and no special skills. Gather some fine beach sand and small seashells on your next vacation and create fanciful paperweights for all the members of your traveling party as mementos. You will all be transported back to the beach when you catch a glimpse of these lovely paperweights. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Baby food jar
- Soap and water
- Colored chalk
- Sandpaper
- Sand
- Small containers
- Funnel
- Paint
- Paintbrush
- Small seashells
- White glue

Thoroughly clean the baby food jar. Remove the label with hot water and soap.

Rub the colored chalk on the sandpaper until the chalk turns into a powder. Mix the powder with the sand until the sand is colored. Rub the other colors of chalk and mix with the sand through the same process. Keep the colors in separate containers.

Place the funnel in the jar and add 1 inch of colored sand.

Add 1 inch of another color of sand. Repeat, alternating sand colors until the jar is full.

Replace the baby food jar cap and paint a pastel color. Add some small seashells to the jar top with glue.
