Global Positioning Systems rely on antennas to communicate with satellites and provide users with their location. Unfortunately, there are many different variables that can diminish or in some cases eliminate your GPS's antenna from receiving an adequate signal. Fortunately, you can ensure that your GPS antenna is receiving the best possible signal using a few simple troubleshooting methods.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your GPS antenna in a location that has a good view of the sky to ensure that it has the strongest possible signal strength. For instance when using an automotive GPS, place the antenna on the windshield.

    • 2

Use the smallest cables possible to connect your GPS to its antenna. Long cables are likely to suffer from interference and not bring in a strong signal.

    • 3

Power off your FM radio if you notice interference with your GPS antenna. Certain frequencies can jam your GPS and prevent it from getting an adequate signal.
