Add a music track to your video clip.

You have a great video of you and your friends riding your bikes down a steep and bumpy hill. But the wind is blowing and the audio portion of the clip is actually painful to listen to. Replace the audio with music from a pre-approved library of music tracks, making your own music video that is much more interesting to watch.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to YouTube. You need to have a YouTube membership in order to use the Video Editor.

    • 2

Upload the video clip you want to put to music, if it's not already uploaded.

    • 3

Go to the YouTube Video Editor and select your video in the "My Videos" tab. Drag it to the story board panel, dropping it in the blank rectangle next to the icon that looks like a video camera. You can add more than one clip, and you can also re-arrange the order of the clips.

    • 4

Switch to the "Audio" tab, where you will see a list of songs from which you can choose. Narrow the list of tracks by Genre or Artist, by clicking on the drop-down menus immediately below the tabs, or search for a specific track by typing in the search field next to the menus.

    • 5

Select a track by clicking on the plus sign (+) to the right of the title you want, or by dragging the title down to the audio track portion of the storyboard panel (below where you dragged the video). You can listen to tracks by holding your mouse over a title and clicking on the play button that appears. If you change your mind, you can select another track, or click on the "x" next to the title in the story board panel to remove it.

    • 6

Play your video in the large video panel at the upper right, by clicking on the play button below the large video panel.

    • 7

Click on "Publish" in the upper right hand corner when you are satisfied with your music video.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also edit the length of your video clip with the YouTube Video Editor.

  • Your finished video may not show up in the "My Videos" tab of the video editor, but it will show up in your main "My videos" page on YouTube. Select "My Videos" from the drop-down menu that appears when you click on your screen name in the very top right-hand corner of the YouTube page to see it.
