How to Add Oatmeal to Soap
If you are looking for a product to assist in healing dry skin, try adding oatmeal to your soap. Transform your plain, white bar soap into a spa-like soap in no time. Oatmeal not only has exfoliating properties, it will draw moisture to the skin and hold it there. It also helps to relieve itching due to poison ivy, poison oak and other irritating skin rashes. Things You'll Need
- 2-bars of plain, white soap
- Food processor or hand grater
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Water
- Microwave
- Ground oatmeal
- Spoon
- Soap molds
- Medium saucepan
- 1/4 cup palm oil
- 1 tsp. dried chamomile
- 10 drops sage oil

Grate one bar of plain, white soap using a food processor or hand grater. Put the soap into a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 tbsp. water and put the mixture in the microwave for two to three minutes. Stir the soap at least once during the microwaving time, and check it often to make sure it doesn't foam over.

Remove the bowl from the microwave and thoroughly stir the soap so that it is completely dissolved. Slowly add in 4 tbsp. of ground oatmeal, stirring constantly until it is mixed completely.

Pour the soap into soap molds. Let it sit at room temperature for 45 minutes, then put it in the freezer for 10 minutes before removing from the molds

Grate up a bar of plain, white soap until you have 2 cups. Use a cheese grater or food processor for grating. Alternatively, you can buy 2 cups of soap flakes.

Pour the grated soap into a medium saucepan. Add 1/2 cup water and 1/4 cup palm oil. Place the pot on the stove over medium-low heat and stir constantly until the soap has dissolved.

Remove the pot from the heat and add 1 tsp. dried chamomile, 1 tbsp. ground oatmeal and 10 drops of sage oil. Stir well to combine the ingredients.

Pour the soap into soap molds and let them sit at room temperature for 45 minutes. Place them in the freezer for 10 minutes prior to removing them from the molds.

Tips & Warnings
You can buy soap molds at most craft stores. If you don't have soap molds, use mini muffin tins or mini loaf pans for your soap molds.
Ground oatmeal can be purchased at the store; however, if you only have whole oats, grind them up in a food processor, with a hand chopper or in a blender.
